Definition:

JSON is short for JavaScript Object Notation and is a lightweight alternative to XML. Originally from the JavaScript programming language, it was used for serializing simple data structures and associative arrays.

It can be used to send these types Number (integer or real), String (double-quoted Unicode with backslash escaping), Boolean (true or false), Array (an ordered sequence of values, comma-separated and enclosed in square brackets), Object (a collection of key:value pairs, comma-separated and enclosed in curly braces; the key must be a string) and null.
