Definition: Pascal is a programming language invented in the early 1970s by Professor Nicklaus Wirth to teach good programming practices to students. It was not a commercial success until the mid 80s when Borland launched a low cost quality Pascal development system called Turbo Pascal. This was followed up by a Windows Development system called Delphi which is also Pascal based.
Delphi lost significant market share to C++, Java and C# for several years and this trend was accelerated recently when Borland announced that it would sell all of it's desktop development tools.
