Bazaar - An Easy to Use Distributed Version Control System
Bazaar is a distributed version control system that adapts to the way you want to work, and you can try it out in five minutes. Major users include MySQL, Mailman, Launchpad, and the Linux Foundation.

It runs on Windows, GNU/Linux, UNIX and Mac OS, and requires only Python 2.4. If you can run Python, you can run Bazaar. An official GNU project, it's licensed under the GPLv2 or later.

DiffMerge - Free Compare and Merge Tool
This is a very nice free tool from SourceGear.com. DiffMerge is an application to visually compare and merge files within Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. It graphically shows the changes between two files, including intra-line highlighting and full support for editing. It can graphically show the changes between 3 files and allows automatic merging (when safe to do so) and full control over editing the resulting file. It can also do Folder Diff where it performs a side-by-side comparison of 2 folders, showing which files are only present in one file or the other, as well as file pairs which are identical or different.

Diffuse Version Compare and Merge Tool
This is open source but as it's Python, it's included in this section. It's a graphical tool for merging and comparing text files and can compare an arbitrary number of files side-by-side and gives users the ability to manually adjust line-matching and directly edit files. Diffuse can also retrieve revisions of files from Bazaar, CVS, Darcs, Git, Mercurial, Monotone, RCS, Subversion, and SVK repositories for comparison and merging.

Eclipse C/C++ Development Tools
The CDT (C/C++ Development Tools) Project provides a fully functional C and C++ Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the Eclipse platform. The Eclipse IDE is part of a family of open source projects.

EX430 Programmable Sports Watch
Selling for $50, the EZ430 is a programmable Sports Watch with the usual time, stop watch etc functions. It also has temperature, pressure and 3 axis accelerometers that can be read and logged in the internal 8Kb Flash memory. It is programmable in C and includes the source code of the firmware which can be compiled and changed wirelessly.

Fantom Programming Language
Fantom is a procedural/OOP programming language that is similar to C# or Java with a few syntactic differences plus it includes type inference and closures, mixins and concurrency. It compiles to fcode that can run on JVMs as bytecode or .NET as iL. Portable code can be written to run on both systems. It leys you write portable to the Java VM, .NET CLR, and JavaScript in the browser.

Flash C/C++ Compiler

This takes native C/C++ code and then compiles into ActionScript byte code that can run in any browser that can run Flash. If you're into Flash/ActionScript development you can link in faster C/C++ code with it.

Free Database Models
This is a free site where there are over 500 different database models for all sorts of industry. The models are given as data diagrams though if you ask nicely (by email) Barry will send you it in an Access database. there is also a video explaining how the models work.

Freenet - Private File Storage and Communication
A Java project this includes C++ libraries for accessing the API. See C++ Code Library for the C++ sources. Freenet is free software that lets you publish and obtain information on the Internet without fear of censorship. It uses a decentralized network so publishers and consumers of information are anonymous.

FXCop - A utility to inspect .NET dlls and exes
FXCop is a GUI .NET compliance tool that checks assemblies of exes and dlls for best practices. It inspects the .IL code and then reports what it sees are problems. This is under continual development and a useful (free) tool for any C# or .NET developer.

Google C++ Style Guide
This is the style guide that Google expects all of its C++ development to match up to. It specifies all sorts of dos and dont's with regard to header files, classes, naming rules, source code and lots more. A good model to work from.

Haxe Programming Language

Nullsoft Scriptable Install System
NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System) is a professional open source system to create Windows installers. It is designed to be as small and flexible as possible and is therefore suitable for internet distribution. It adds just 34KB to your executables.

The OpenMP Application Program Interface (API) supports multi-platform shared-memory parallel programming in C/C++ and Fortran on all architectures, including Unix platforms and Windows NT platforms. It's a very easy way to make your application use available cores if the CPU is multi-core.
