Definition of Mono

Definition: Mono is an open source set of tools to allow developers to create and run applications in C#, Java, Python and many more to run on Linux, Windows and Unix.

It includes a C# compiler, virtual machine and base class libraries. In addition there are tools that use open source libraries,, and connectivity to most of the common databases.
