Definition of GPU

Definition: GPU is short for Graphics processing unit. It is the chip (or chipset) on a video card that does all of the heavy lifting when displaying fast 3D graphics and video.

GPU's are optimized for low level graphical operations and can do this many times faster than a CPU could.
