Definition of Command Line Interface

By David Bolton, About.com

Definition: A Command Line Interface (CLI) lets you control your PC by typing commands. There's no mouse or graphical controls like you get in a GUI such as Windows.

Before Windows there was DOS which is a CLI. On Windows XP and 2000, you can access the CLI by clicking the Start button, then clicking Run, typing cmd in the box and pressing enter. That opens a CLI.
