Definition of Client

By David Bolton, About.com

Definition: A client is an application that makes use of a server, for example a web browser is the client of a web server.

Clients can also talk direct to other clients, this is known as Peer to Peer or P2P. However most P2P systems still require a server to provide the location of other clients.
