Thinking About Programming Language Popularity Trends

First there was Tiobe.com's index and now there's Indeed.com and of course Google Trends.

These show broadly that Java is the most popular and now rising in popularity, because of Android phones I'm guessing, Objective-C is climbing massively thanks to the iPhone and iPad. On Tiobe, C, Objective-C, C++ and C#'s popularity at positions 2-5 between them add up to over 42% of all the programming languages. Makes you think!

An interesting quirk. On the Google trends link above, the country with the most search volume (per head?) for C++ and C# interest is Ethiopia, surpassing even India! C++ seems to be taking off in Addis Abeba!
