On Flamewars and Java

Eclipse CDTIt's all to easy to get sucked into bitter online discussions about the merits of different programming languages but it's a bit like debating say Hammers versus Screwdrivers. You can use a screwdriver with a nail but hammering a screw is much easier! Given all the problems that can be solved by programming, there are usually several languages that you can use to solve a given problem. C++, C# and even Java cover a lot of bases, C to a lesser extent.

Though C, C++ and C# are the main languages I also know and use include Delphi, PHP, JavaScript, and sometimes VBA and a bit of Java. SQL, CSS and HTML aren't really languages but I know and use them a lot. I've never considered Java to be that great for use on GUI apps but the Open Source IDE Eclipse is very good indeed, especially as it included support for compiling C and C++. Eclipse Galileo is an annual release of ptrojects, mostly Java but included in there is version 6.0 of CDT (C/C++ Development tools). It's a 43.4MB download if you have Eclipse already, otherwise 79.5MB with Eclipse.
