Interesting C++ Project - Game STL

Thursday January 1, 2009
Much like the C++ Standard template Library (STL), Game STL is a bridge of sorts between the full STL and barebones C++. The project was only launched in November (on Sourceforge) but has already released files though just for Windows with other platforms to follow in the future. It's by no means complete and looking at it, I reckon it might be useful to non game devlopers as well.

The first release includes documentation which is an encouraging sign. Using a new package or library is hard enough without knowing how to use it, is by no means easy. I don't recall seeing how many new projects die in their first year but it must be a substantial number. If you have an interest in this why not get involved and offer assistance. It might make the differences between the project thriving and growing or withering on the vine. That's my general advice regarding open source, not just this one!

this is one of those projects which sounds good at first, but probably end up obsolete. most game houses have their own optmized stl already, or they are skeptical and end up developing one anyway :-D
