Developing Games Part Time While Working Full-time

Thursday November 6, 2008
I'm doing that myself but here's another example of someone creating a game. Using C# to power the asp.net website with SQL Server, developer Aaron Murray has created in his spare time Domain of Heroes a free Role Playing game that is browser based. The client is html plus JavaScript for maximum browser compatibility.

If you're interested the game is still in beta and best of all it's free. There are various ways to monetize a game or website and DoH is going to let you buy small add-ons to customize your game play. Other ways include advertising such as Google Adsense. The big trick is to be able to balance the server traffic costs with income, but those traffic costs are getting cheaper day by day. But first of course you have to develop the game and get nice graphics for it. I favor simple games that don't eat up every spare hour I've got that I can dip into and out of. But mine is currently at the design stage. More on it later! I've also amended the Games Developer article to add a bit about iPhone gaming. More on that to come as well.
