Free Database Models!

Sunday August 10, 2008
Database AnswersIf you work professionally the odds are that you will need to write code that uses a database. In big firms particularly you probably won't have any control of the database; they employ staff just for that, but in small companies it might be your job to design the database, tables, constraints etc. That can be daunting if you're new to it. But there are places where you can get a kick start.

One such web site is DatabaseAnswers and this is the work of Oracle DBA Barry Williams and is a free site where there are over 500 different database models for all sorts of industry. The models are given as data diagrams though if you ask nicely (by email) Barry will send you it in an Access database. He has also put up a video showing how to understand a database diagram and created a community. Recommended.
