C# Tutorial Will Appear Later this week
In this case, my new Linux box was the reason. I'd ordered it without an operating system and it turned up three days later (yesterday) which was pretty quick. I had a Linux install DvD but it was out of date and so I downloaded the 64 bit KDE version from OpenSuse.org- a mere 700MB. The PC was a Intel Dual Core with 2GB of ram and 250GB of disk. Not bad for about $500 without a monitor. I've used Suse before and Yast- the installation utility that comes with it makes installing a dream. There are dozens of Linux Distros (Ubuntu, Mandrake, Knoppix etc) but the end result is more or less the same. But first I had to burn the .iso file to CD on my XP box and used Alex Feinman's ISO Recorder. It does a great job and yes I did donate a few bucks to him as a thank you!
From inserting the CD to logging in took 20 minutes. Impressively, Yast even found my networked router and was able to configure my internet access without any input from me. So I could now start updating it which took a while. Apart from a slight problem with Apache 2 still unable to install (missing dependencies!) , everything else is ok. I also visited webmin.com and got Yast to install the RPM for that. If you are uncertain about administering all of the messy aspects of a Linux server- eg accounts, samba, apache and tons more then webmin is just superb. I'll be using my Linux box for writing code with the GCC compilers and Project Mono. In the mean time you can read more about Linux on
