What is a QR Code?

Friday February 1, 2008
QR COde for http://cplus.about.comThe image to the right is actually the url of this site- http://cplus.about.com displayed in a two dimensional barcode, called a QR Code. QR is short for Quick Response and it was invented by a Japanese company Denso-Wave. It's now starting to become popular outside of Japan, for instance in the UK, the Sun newspaper is incorporating QR Codes in the printed pages so that anyone with a camera equipped mobile phone and the freely downloadable i-nigma software (for mobile phone)can scan.

I generated the qr code using this online site but I've also added a link to an open source QR code library (in C#) into the C# code library. That requires free registration but they promise they won't spam.
