Fancy a Free XML Notepad?

Wednesday November 8, 2006
Microsoft XML Notepad At work, I've been updating help files and while browsing the Microsoft website in search of a strange error code from the Microsoft HTML Help Compiler, I came across a download link to a free utility- XML Notepad 2006.

If you've ever worked with XML files, you'll appreciate having a nice easy editor to work with and this one impressed me.

As well as programming, I occasionally administer some websites and use Google Sitemaps to help Google find all the site pages. The sitemaps have to be prepared as XML files, and while it is very easy to edit them with notepad or any other editor, it is embarrassingly easy to introduce faults (I know because I have). XML Notepad validates the XML instantly so no more missing or broken XML tags! And it comes with a built in Diff utility and other features.

Verdict : Recommended! You'll find a permanent link to it in the Top Tools and Utilities folder.

Have a great week!
